Make UK Manufacturing Awards: HSSMI and Wilson Bio-Chemical Project Announced Runner-Up
/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Zane Mezdreija
HSSMI is proud to announce that our work in accelerating the development and scale up of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) has been recognised at the Make UK Manufacturing Awards for the Midlands and East of England region. The Waste-to-Wings project, undertaken together with Wilson Bio-Chemical, was shortlisted in the Innovation category and the Energy & Sustainability category. At a ceremonial black-tie dinner on 13 October the project was named runner-up in the latter category.
Our entry focused on sustainable future supply chains and specialist innovations to future-proof the production of greener jet fuel. The project uses a circular economy framework as a unique process method to make bio-renewable jet fuel. Waste derived from the aviation industry is diverted from landfills and incineration and instead converted into a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), thus providing a unique and genuine solution to environmental air transport issues.
The Make UK Manufacturing Awards celebrate the outstanding people, teams, and collaborative projects from the worlds of manufacturing, sustainability, and engineering. A wide range of themes are recognised by the awards including business performance, future of manufacturing, net zero, inclusive employers, emerging professionals, and apprentices. More than 500 manufacturing peers, engineers, business leaders and innovators gathered at The Slate conference centre at the University of Warwick in Coventry to celebrate the best practices and innovation applied across the region’s landmark engineering projects.
HSSMI and Wilson Bio Chemical were joined on our table at the black-tie dinner by industry stakeholders who showed their support for the SAF project and were delighted with its progress and success. Andrew Mair, Chief Executive of the Midlands Aerospace Alliance, said “The aviation industry is committed to an industry-wide plan to reach net zero CO2 emissions including carbon-neutral growth and we’re delighted to provide support for Wilson Bio-Chemical and HSSMI’s project which demonstrates why the Midlands is such a great region for developing innovative solutions to global aerospace challenges.”
Satwik Mehta, Engineering Director for HSSMI, added “I really enjoyed a great evening of networking with like-minded engineers. Our partnership work with Wilson Bio Chemical on Waste-to-Wings will have a far-reaching impact, clearly demonstrating to businesses and the public the potential of transitioning to circular economy principles. We’re delighted to be involved in this step-change project that will help decarbonise the aerospace industry, remove carbon and abate CO2 emissions that help reach net zero.”
HSSMI would like to congratulate all the finalists, runners up and winners and would like to thank Make UK for organising a fantastic awards ceremony.
